LA CROSSE, Wisconsin (WXOW) - The local Habitat for Humanity and ReStore is asking the public for help in finding whoever was responsible for a burglary at their downtown La Crosse building over the weekend.
According to Executive Director Amanda Acklin, someone broke into their building at 434 3rd Street between 1:00 p.m. Sunday, January 19 and 9:00 a.m. Monday, January 20.
The suspects made off with cash from donation boxes and a large safe that held money donated to the organization.
In a statement, Acklin said there are many victims impacted by the burglary. "Habitat is deeply disappointed and it's not just the charity that are the victims to this crime. The donors, volunteers, and the families that we serve are also victims here. The funds that were stolen were funds raised from sales and donations from people in our community. These funds are what help us build and repair homes in this community, and right now things are tight. I am saddened that someone would steal from those in need."
Habitat would like anyone who may have seen any vehicles in their lot between the times mentioned earlier or have any information on the burglary to contact La Crosse Police at 785-5962 or Crimestoppers at 784-TIPS (8477). You can also text LAXTIPS and your tip to 274637.
