St. Charles, MN (WXOW) – Bill Spitzer, Mayor of St. Charles, will run for Winona County Sheriff.
He made the announcement Thursday night at the Ground Round in Winona.
Earlier this month, Spitzer announced that he was not going to seek a sixth term in office as the city's mayor.
Spitzer has served more than 30-years in criminal justice. His first job was with the Olmsted County Sheriff's Office in1983 working in the detention center. Over the last 24-years he has been a Deputy Sheriff with the Winona County Sheriff's Office.
"I can bring new ideas to the Sheriff's Office," said Bill Spitzer. "My decade of leadership as Mayor will help me guide the Sheriff's Office in to the future."
Bill has assumed many roles within the Sheriff's Department including D.A.R.E (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) Officer for more than 17 years.
The election for Sheriff will be held in November.
