La Crosse, Wisconsin (WXOW) - The weather became so cold that the La Crosse County Emergency Management announced the opening of another community warming shelter Thursday.
It’s located at the Wesley United Methodist Church on King Street.
Emergency Management Coordinator Keith Butler said they’re working to secure volunteers to run the shelter, but he’s confident that will happen.
Butler said the new shelter will open tonight, and be open 24 hours through the length of the cold snap. It’s an option along with the Salvation Army when it’s not at capacity and the warming center at The First Baptist Church.
He said while anyone could be at risk in these hazardous conditions, the three shelters should provide enough room for those who need it.
