LA CROSSE, Wisconsin (WXOW) One WIAC powerhouse down, another one to go. UW-La Crosse will host UW-Stevens Point Saturday afternoon at Mitchell Hall.
The Pointers are the top-ranked team in the nation in Division 3.
The Eagles already knocked off one ranked opponent this week.
They beat 7th ranked UW-Whitewater by 5 on Wednesday. It was a nice bounce back win after two narrow road losses the week before. Now come the Pointers, a team UW-L has been pointing to since they lost at UW-Stevens Point by 13 three weeks ago.
"Stevens Point is so fundamentally sound and they play great defense. They make you work for everything. You have to make sure we're solid and don't turn the ball over. If we're solid and play great defense and limit their scoring, we know we can score with them. It's going to come down to the defensive end and playing together down there," said forward Calahan Skogman.
"One of the things you try to do if you have a loss is try to make that work for you somehow. Hopefully, it keeps guys hungry and pointed in the right direction and say 'hey, we're close. Let's find a way to get over the hump,' " said head coach Ken Koelbl.
Saturday's tip-off at Mitchell Hall is set for 3pm.
