Tommy Thompson endorses Brad Schimel for attorney general

WAUKESHA (WXOW) -- Former Gov. Tommy Thompson has endorsed Brad Schimel for attorney general.

In a statement released Monday, Thompson says the Waukesha County district attorney's experience in prosecution has prepared him for the role of attorney general.

"Brad brings more than 23 years of frontline prosecution to the role of Attorney General. His prosecution experience is unmatched by any of the candidates running for Attorney General, and his record and vision for fighting crime will be a tremendous asset for the Wisconsin Department of Justice," Thompson says.

Schimel has been district attorney in Waukesha County since 2006. He's running against Dane County District Attorney Ismael Ozanne, Jefferson County District Attorney Susan Happ and state Rep. Jon Richards.
Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen announced last fall he would not seek a third term.
