Volunteer of the Year: Justin Young

Posted:
Name: Justin Young

Accomplishments: Justin Young is a three year, full time, volunteer for the La Crosse Logan/Central Gymnastics Team. In the years that Justin has been a volunteer he is in the gym six days a week. On Wednesdays, he leads the team in the weight room. He has created an individualized weight lifting program for the girls that is specific to her needs. This has benefited each team member immensely, increasing their strength and endurance.

Justin is a second year member of the Wisconsin High School Gymnastics Association. he also has attended yearly coaching clinics put on by the WHSGA to better himself and in turn benefiting the La Crosse gymnastics program.

Justin has played a pivotal role in breathing life back into the gymnastics program in the La Crosse schools. As a volunteer, hea has watched the numbers for the program double As the numbers for the team climb, so do the accomplishments. In 2012, both the Varsity and Junior Varsity took first place at Holmen's McLellan Invitational and in 2013 both teams took first place at Galesville's Flip For A Cure Invitational. Each of these invitationals are the largest gymnastics meets in the area.

In addition to volunteering for the gymnastics team, Justin also works a full time job as a semi driver for Reinhart Foods. This means that when practice is complete, between 8pm and 10pm, Justin is still getting up to be at work at 3am.

Before volunteering to help coach the gymnastics team, Justin had a minimal knowledge about gymnastics. Today you would not be able to say the same. He is a major part of the team and it would not be the same without him. He is adored and trusted by all the gymnasts. The team knows if something were to happen, Justin would be right there to help. He takes his position as a coach very seriously and works very hard to insure he is the best coach he can be for the team.
