WINONA, Minn. (FOX 47) -- A Winona County school bus driver is charged with three counts of third-degree DWI after crashing his bus carrying Lewiston-Altura elementary students.
Karl Allen Herber, 54, of Rollingstone, appeared in Winona County District court Wednesday. A judge set bail at $12,000.
Deputies were called at about 4:45 p.m. Tuesday to a report of a school bus that crashed into a ditch on Fern Valley Drive at County Road 28 between Altura and Rollingstone.
Winona County Chief Deputy Ron Ganrude said deputies arrested Herber for suspected DWI. Ganrude said Herber had a blood-alcohol content of 0.09.
Five children were on the bus, ranging from kindergarten through fifth grade. No one was hurt and the students were returned home safely.
The Lewiston-Altura School District is investigating the incident. Superintendent Jeff Apse said he cannot comment on personnel matters.
