LA CROSSE, Wisconsin (WXOW) – The La Crosse Area Chinese Association and the UW-L Chinese Students and Scholar Council Association rang in the Chinese New Year Sunday evening.
A couple hundred people attended to watch Chinese folk dance, see a traditional Chinese costume fashion show, and hear musical performances. Some featured ancient Chinese instruments.
Students from Central High School also participated by reading Chinese poems.
"Chinese New Year is a big time for family to gather together to celebrate. To celebrate the whole year before and give some different wishes to family members," said Fangyi Jianh, UW-L CSSC president.
Organizers said the first day of the Chinese New Year is a day of unity, welcoming a year of good luck and health.
2014 begins the year of the horse.
