Firefighters Respond to Smoke in Exchange Building

Posted:

LA CROSSE, Wisconsin (WXOW)  La Crosse firefighters were called to the Exchange Building in downtown La Crosse.

It happened just before 1:30 Monday.  The call came in as smoke in the building.  When crews arrived, they went through the building and then prepared to attack a fire.  They determined, however, that the smoke was coming from an elevator on the second floor at the time.

Firefighters shut off the power and led occupants down a back staircase and out of the building.  Firefighters worked to clear the smoke and eventually turned the power back on so occupants could return to work.
