UPDATE: School bus driver charged with DWI appears in court

WINONA, Minn. (WXOW) -- A Winona County man accused of driving a school bus drunk and crashing with kids on board last month appeared in court Thursday.

Karl Herber, 54, of Rollingstone, was arrested for three counts of 3rd Degree DWI.

He drove the bus into a ditch between Altura and Rollingstone on Jan. 28.

The Winona County Sheriff's Department says Herber had a blood alcohol content of .09 when the bus crashed.

Five kids, from kindergarten through fifth grade, were on the bus at the time, though none were hurt.

According to court records, he appeared in court Thursday morning and waived reading of the charges against him.

An omnibus hearing, which will look at the evidence against Herber, was set for March 12 at 9 a.m.
