Cause of fatal Town of Medary fire undetermined

TOWN OF MEDARY, Wis. (WXOW) - UPDATE: The La Crosse County Sheriff's Department said the cause of a fatal fire in the Town of Medary is undetermined, but no foul play was apparent.

The Town of Shelby Fire Department responded to the fire around 12:30 Friday morning.  When they arrived on scene a trailer was fully engulfed in flames just off County Road F.

After entering the home, they found Nancy Fotland, 58, from La Crosse, on the floor in the hallway.  She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The fire is under investigation by the State Fire Marshal's Office and the La Crosse County Sheriff's Department.

TOWN OF MEDARY, Wis. (WXOW) - UPDATE:  The La Crosse County Medical Examiner has identified the victim in the Town of Shelby fire.

The victim is Nancy Fotland, 58, from La Crosse. 

The Medical Examiner Tim Candahl said Fotland's body has been taken to Dane County Medical Examiners Office for an autopsy.

The Town of Shelby Fire Department responded around 12:30 Friday morning to the blaze at a trailer court off County Road F.

When fire fighters arrived on scene, one home was fully engulfed in flames. After entering the home, they found Fotland on the floor in the hallway.  She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The cause of the fire is undetermined at this time.

TOWN OF MEDARY, Wis. (WXOW) - One person is dead following an early morning fire in the town of Medary.

The Town of Shelby Fire Department responded around 12:30 Friday morning to the blaze at a trailer court off County Road F.

When fire fighters arrived on scene, one home was fully engulfed in flames.

When fire fighters entered the home, they found one person on the floor in the hallway, and pronounced the victim dead at the scene.

"We had a crew make entry through the front door," Assistant Chief of the Town of Shelby Fire Department Tony Holinka said. "There was heavy smoke and a lot of heat and flames. It took them a while for them to make entry. Once inside in the hallway we did recover one victim out of a hallway."
   
A neighbor did enter the home before the fighters arrived to try to help the occupant inside. Fire fighters found the neighbor safely outside the home when they arrived. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

The name of the victim has not been released.
