LA CROSSE, Wis. (WXOW) - The La Crosse man arrested for robbing a northside gas station begins his process through the court system less than a day after committing the crime.

19-year-old Anthony TJ Smith appeared for a bond hearing Friday afternoon. Judge Scott Horne gave Smith a $2,500 cash bond.

As of 3:15 p.m., Smith remained in the La Crosse County Jail according to online jail records.

Tips from the public led investigators to Smith early Friday morning.  A statement from La Crosse Police said that Smith admitted to the robbery of the Clark gas station on Rose Street.

Surveillance photos show Smith at the counter of the store shortly before 3:00 p.m. Thursday.  The clerk told investigators Smith pushed the clerk away, grabbed money from the cash register, and ran from the store.  The clerk wasn't hurt.

Officers found a weapon near the store after witnesses outside saw the man throw something under a dumpster.


LA CROSSE, Wis. (WXOW) - La Crosse Police arrest a man less than a day after the robbery of a northside gas station.

Based on tips from the public, police said arrested Anthony TJ Smith, 19, of 1918 Prospect St., early Friday morning on one count of robbery.

He is expected to appear in court later on Friday.

In a statement from police, investigators, using the tips provided, tracked down Smith and made the arrest.  The statement said that when questioned, Smith admitted he was responsible for the crime.

Smith was arrested for the robbery of the Clark station at 2308 Rose Street shortly before 3:00 p.m. Thursday afternoon.  According to the clerk, Smith walked up to the counter, pushed the clerk, then grabbed money from the register.  Police later found a weapon that witnesses told investigators was thrown by the suspect under a nearby dumpster.
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WXOW) - The search for a suspect is underway after a gas station is held up on La Crosse's northside Thursday afternoon.

Police were called to the Clark station at 2308 Rose Street shortly before 3:00 p.m.

According to what the clerk told officers, a white male suspect came into the store and up to the counter. The man then pushed the clerk away from the cash register and grabbed money.  The suspect then ran from the store. No one in the store was hurt.

No one was injured in the robbery.

Police provided these photos of the suspect in the hopes a member of the public would be able to identify him.

He's described by the witness as a white male, approximately 5'7" with a thin build.  The suspect was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, black stocking cap, sunglasses, dark colored pants and black shoes with white stripes.
