Viterbo's Engh and Shepard Named MCC Players of the Week

La Crosse, Wis. – Career highs for Viterbo University women's basketball player Jenna Engh  and men's basketball player David Shepard helped each of them be named Midwest Collegiate Conference player of the Week announced today by MCC sports information director Wade Steinlage.

Engh had a fantastic offensive week for the V-Hawks but more importantly she played great all around games in both of Viterbo's contest last week. First against #15 ranked St. Ambrose University, Engh scored a career high 38 points on 11-25 shooting including 6-14 from three point range. She was also 10-12 from the free throw line while also recording six steals.  Then on Saturday, Engh led the V-Hawks with 21 points to go along with 4 rebounds and 6 assists. She was 10-11 from the free throw line and 3-6 from long range in Viterbo's 76-66 win over Grand View University. Engh has been on a scoring rampage throughout the conference schedule as she is averaging a league best 21.5 points per game and 3.5 three-pointers per game.

"Jenna had a great week and helped our team pick up a gratifying win in what has been a difficult season," commented Head Coach Bobbi Vandenberg. "We were also very competitive in a seven point loss at the St. Ambrose gym against the 15th ranked team in the NAIA II. Even though her scoring stands out, Jenna also did a good job of distributing the ball, rebounding and defending some great players. She has come back from a serious ankle sprain in December to be a better player than she was before the injury."

Like Engh, this is the first time that Shepard has been honored by the MCC with the weekly honor. Shepard finished the week averaging 22.5 points per game, 10.0 rebounds per game and 2.5 assists per game. In Viterbo's 79-76 loss to MCC leading St. Ambrose University on Wednesday, Shepard finished with 17 points, 9 rebounds and 3 assists. Then on Saturday, Shepard scored a career high 28 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to help the V-Hawks defeat Grand View University 87-73. Shepard has been a constant for the V-Hawks all season but has really picked it up in conference play as he is second in the lead in scoring (18.4 ppg) and rebounding (8.8 rpg).

"David has been preforming consistently all season long for us," commented head coach Wayne Wagner. "It is nice to see him get recognized for his efforts this past week."
