Fees are finalized for downtown parking ramps

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WXOW) - Prices have been finalized for the pay stations at three downtown parking ramps.

Last year the city of La Crosse installed pay stations at downtown parking ramps.  Monday the city Parking Utility Board decided on the parking fees.  Parking in the ramps will cost $1.50 after a two hour grace period.  That cost includes week nights but there will be no charge on weekends.

"We have to look at what's a reasonable amount for the city to be able to generate.  That we're not putting all the cost of parking on the backs of the property tax payers," said Council President Audrey Kader.

In order to increase ramp usage, all on street parking in downtown business district currently zoned two hours will be reduced to 90 minutes.  The Department of Public Works currently offers monthly parking permits in all three parking ramps at a cost between $20 and $40.  You can obtain additional information and apply for a monthly permit by visiting the City of La Crosse's website at  www.cityoflacrosse.org .

Money from the parking fees will pay for ramp maintenance and security.  The board has also recommended to change downtown street parking from two hours to 90 minutes.  The board will meet next Wednesday to determine when the pay stations will go online.
