LA CROSSE, Wis. (WXOW)-- Weather conditions can change rapidly in the winter, so it's important to stay updated especially when traveling.
News 19's Madeline Sky has some tips on winter driving.
With rain, snow, sleet and freezing rain all possible today, road conditions are expected to deteriorate quickly; this means defensive driving will be paramount to your safety, and the safety of others.
One of the most important things you can do is slow down. Remember, the posted speed limits are for good weather conditions, not snow and ice.
"It seems that if people can see the black pavement, if they see that part of the pavement that their speed increases," Wisconsin State Patrol Trooper Robert Koenen said. "Speed limit set at 65. But that could mean that 45 is too fast. Slow down and make sure you leave plenty of distance between you and the vehicle ahead of you."
