LA CROSSE, Wis. (WXOW) - With spring just around the corner, the 8th annual Minutes in Motion challenge is open for registration as a fun way to get or stay active during the upcoming season.
The challenge starts Monday, March 24, with the goal of 1,260 minutes of activity over six weeks, which average out to 30 minutes of activity a day. This does not mean you have to get 30 minutes or more of vigorous exercise in each day. "For some people, its the small things, the 5 to 10 minute intervals. It's doing the walking. Maybe it's doing your physical therapy. It's just starting to move. The health benefits are great," says Linda Larson of Gundersen Health System. In addition to exercise, you can also count the everyday activities, such as the time you spend shoveling snow, or walking a dog.
To register, log on to gundersenhealth.org/mim. ; You'll have to create an account, but that is free and can be used again each year. New this year, the minutes in motion facebook page is a place for you to share your achievements and encouragement with other participants. The event is free for individuals and teams.
The challenge will run from March 24 to May 4.
