Stepbrother guilty of sexually assaulting, abusing girl who escaped Madison home

Posted: Updated:
MADISON (WKOW) -- The Assistant Dane County District Attorney says the prosecution was happy with the jury's decision to convict Joshua Drabek on all three charges.

Drabek is now guilty of first degree sexual assault of a child, second degree sexual assault of a child and child abuse. He was taken into custody early Friday morning.

"I'm happy this is the last trial the victim will have to testify in, so that's the biggest relief at this point," said Matt Moeser, Assistant Dane County District Attorney. "I'm satisfied with the verdict and I'm appreciative with the time the Madison Police Department spent investigating this and the thought that the jury put into their verdict."

The defense wasn't available for comment.

Around 8:30 p.m. Thursday, jurors had the bailiff ask the judge what they should do if they have reached a verdict on two of the three charges against Drabek. Attorneys on both sides asked the judge to tell jury members to keep deliberating. There was no word on which charges the jury has come to an agreement.

Earlier in the day, both attorneys issued their closing arguments. Prosecutors tried to defend the victim's credibility in her accusations against her step brother Drabek, while the defense focused on discrediting recent evidence that Drabek admitted to having sexual thoughts about the girl.

Drabek will be sentenced on Wednesday.
