SPARTA, Wis. (WXOW) - Middle school students showcased their musical talents Saturday by singing or playing an instrument for a judge and small audience at the District Solo & Ensemble Music Festival in Sparta.
About 400 students from in Black River Falls Middle School, Tomah Middle School and Sparta Meadowview Middle School performed solos and in ensembles.
They then got feedback on their skills.
The Wisconsin School Music Association led the event.
"It's a really good experience for them. They get used to standing up in front of someone performing. I tell the kids if they do that, it's easier to take speeches in high school, and just being in front of people. It builds confidence,” said Lisa Cash, Sparta Meadowview Middle School band director.
Judges assessed students based upon their performance, and their understanding of music literature and concepts.
