Teddy bears aimed to help patients overcome fear

Posted:
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WXOW) - A student organization that focuses on the importance of volunteering, is helping make the Emergency and Urgent Care Center at Mayo Clinic Health System Franciscan Healthcare a little less scary for young patients.

Tuesday, the group Volunteering Within at the University of Wisconsin – La Crosse, donated teddy bears to the hospital.

Volunteering Within at the University of Wisconsin – La Crosse advocates for the importance of volunteering as part of the student experience. One of their major activities each year is the “Teddy Bear Toss” at one of the men’s basketball games. Attendees at the game between UW-L and UW-Superior were asked to bring new teddy bears that the group collected and then distribute to different groups around the community.

This is the second year that the group has provided bears to the Emergency and Urgent Care Center, where the bears go to help young patients overcome their fears following an accident or other trauma.
