Mayo Clinic Health System opening new clinic

ONALASKA, Wis. (WXOW) - Mayo Clinic Health System is opening a special procedure clinic in Onalaska. The clinic will be used for two procedures, Essure contraceptives implants for women and vasectomies for men. No abortion will offered.

The opening of the clinic is the result of several years of proactive collaborative work between the last three bishops of the Diocese of La Crosse, the Franciscan Sisters of Perpetual Adoration in La Crosse, and the administration, staff, many doctors, and the Mayo Clinic Health System.

One of the primary objectives in this collaborative work is to maintain the integrity of the Catholic hospital and its deep Franciscan tradition. The Diocese of La Crosse said in a statement released Thursday, "Life is sacred and a gift from God. All medical procedures performed within a Catholic hospital must be in harmony with Catholic teaching."
