LA CROSSE, Wis. (WXOW) – One of the many reasons professional conferences come to La Crosse is for the free parking, but with a new fee system soon to be in place, this may present challenges.
Following a three-hour grace period, the new parking policy will charge drivers 75 cents per hour for parking in the downtown La Crosse ramps.
The Organic Farming Conference is celebrating its 25th anniversary this weekend and the head of the La Crosse Area Convention and Visitors Bureau says the fees may affect future conferences.
"We have always advertised and marketed ourselves as having free parking, and all of our materials for the last 30 years have talked about free parking. That certainly presents a challenge for the La Crosse Center and the La Crosse Area Convention and Visitors Bureau, and all of our partners in tracking conventions," LACVB Executive Director Dave Clements said.
Despite the new parking fees, La Crosse still has a lot to offer, and Clements hopes the fees don't keep people away.
