ONALASKA, Wis. (WXOW) -- The Onalaska Hilltoppersare climbing to new heights.
After their 3 to 1 winover rival West Salem, Ona is headed back to the state tournament in Madison.
After falling in thesectional finals three out of the last four years, the Hilltoppers broke through Saturday to punch their first ticket to state since 2009.
"We got theconference championship we need a new banner for that, were adding the 2014 fora sectional final it would be awesome to hang a state title banner right nextto the sectional final one," said Senior John Gargaro.
After graduating over a third of their goals from 2013, the Hilltoppers weren't sure where theiroffensive production would come from. But Onalaska has lit thelamp 148 times this season, the most in the Tim Ebner era.
"It's been a specialseason anytime you can go and only lose 3 games throughout year it's a specialyear. We attribute that to great senior leadership and great senior production," said Head Coach Tim Ebner.
The Hilltoppers arescoring in different ways; long gone are the days of one dominate scorer. Thisyear's Onalaska team has a trio of 20+ goal scorers and two more have scoredover 10.
"Well it's justbeen a good contribution for everyone, our first two lines have put up I don'tknow coach said it's the most goals ever in school history," said senior Will Tepp.
"We have notrelied on one or two people to score goals; we can get solid contribution fromour first two lines and even down to our third line and defensemen on any givennight, said Gargaro.
