LA CROSSE, Wis. (WXOW) ----- The Vernon County Sheriff's Department and La Crosse Police worked together as part of an ongoing investigation into a larger drug operation. Both departments say they've been following the activity of a group of people who are originally from outside the area. WXOW had exclusive coverage of the raid and arrests.
Around 4:00 p.m. Wednesday, police arrested two people in connection with what they say part of a drug ring operating in La Crosse. Police say the two suspects were manufacturing crack-cocaine inside the apartment. Large amounts of cash were discovered by investigators. There were also cell phones and walkie talkies found which police say are typical of bigger drug operations.
Taking part in the investigation was Vernon County Sheriff John Spears. He said they need the public's help to crack down on drug dealers in the area. "Hopefully more people will come forward. Our goal is always to get the citizen's cooperation."
Police said they understand that some people are afraid to report suspicious activity but they can do it anonymously by calling Crimestoppers.
Authorities said they'll have more information in the coming days including names and pictures of those arrested but since the investigation is ongoing releasing any other information would jeopardize the case.
WXOW will continue to follow this story when we get additional updates.
