MADISON, Wis. (WXOW) It will be a long day of waiting for the Onalaska hockey team Thursday.
They'll be the last ones on the ice in Madison when they take on Kettle Moraine in the WIAA State Hockey quarterfinals.
Some excitement though.
The Hilltoppers had a chance to test out the surface at the Alliant Energy Center in Madison.
The team held a 45-minute skate-around.
Kettle Moraine is a team similar to the Hilltoppers in that they come into this tournament un-ranked and feeling like they're the underdog.
"It's good to get on the ice and get a feel for the surface, get a feel for the boards and the glass and how the puck bounces and those kinds of things. It's been an exciting morning for the guys. We loaded the bus around 6:50 am, headed over the high school for a pep assembly. The made our way down here. We earned our way here and now we need to see what we can do with it," Onalaska Head Coach Tim Ebner said.
"There are some really, really strong teams here. A lot of those teams are ranked in the state. Both us and Kettle Moraine come in under the radar. Thinking it should be a pretty good game Thursday night."
