ONALASKA, Wis. (WXOW) The Onalaska Co-op girls hockey team is familiar with prep hockey's biggest stage.
They're headed back to state for the third year in a row and will take on St. Croix Valley Friday afternoon in Madison.
This is the 9th trip to state overall for the program.
They're still searching for that elusive first state title.
The Hilltoppers have lost in the championship game in each of the last two seasons.
It's something that's weighed on the minds of the players and coaches all season.
"Ever since we lost two years ago we've just been on the hunt to get that state championship because nothing's worse than losing," said senior forward Jamie Weilandt.
"Since last year and the year before losing in the state championship game I've always wanted to go back. And this I just wanted to go back and actually win the championship game and be that champion," said goalie Jeanlyn Schindler.
"That's been the main focus, the big goal. It's not to get there, now that we've accomplished that, but it's to get the ultimate prize. But we've got to win Friday to get to Saturday. All four teams are 0-0. We're all starting on the same level," said head coach Tim Franzini.
The Hilltoppers and Fusion play in the semifinals at the Alliant Energy Center with the start time set for approximately 2:15pm.
