Readstown man killed in snowmobile crash

TOWN OF STARK, Wis. (WXOW) – A Readstown man is killed in a snowmobile crash. 

It happened Thursday, shortly after 8:30 p.m. on a public snowmobile trail near Weister Creek Road and County Road P in the Town of Stark in Vernon County.

Authorities said Joshua McCauley, 31, was traveling on a snowmobile trail when he lost control of his snowmobile and struck a tree. McCauley was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officials said alcohol and speed are believed to be factors in the crash. McCauley was wearing his helmet at the time of the crash.

The accident remains under investigation by the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources.
