La Crosse, WI (WXOW) -

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WXOW) - UPDATE: Crews are nearing completion of repairs on a water main break on Monitor Street from early Friday morning.

According to Mark Johnson of the Utilities Office, the repair work should wrap up by 11:00 p.m.

Although the water main will be back in operation, the street won't.  Johnson said that Monitor Street between Rose Street and Copeland Avenue is closed until next week when street work can happen. The north sidewalk on that block is also closed.

Restricted access to the north-south alley between Monitor Street and Car Street is in effect through the weekend as well.

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WXOW) – A water main broke early Friday morning in front of Super Buffet near the corner of Monitor Street and Southbound Highway 53.

The break occurred around seven a.m., flooding both Monitor Street and Southbound Highway 53 and Copeland Avenue.

Police had to close down south bound traffic on Highway 53 for about an hour after the break. Monitor Street remains closed between Copeland and Rose Streets, as city crews continued to work on fixing the water main throughout the day.

Some city crew members said they expect to have the water main fixed by Friday evening.
