MADISON, Wisconsin (WXOW) - The Onalaska Co-Op Girls Hockey team took the state championship game down to the final seconds in dramatic fashion Saturday before falling to the Green Bay East Co-op 6-5 at the Alliant Energy Center in Madison.

It was the second year in a row that the team finished second at state.

Much like their overtime win against River Falls in the semifinals on Friday, Onalaska came from behind to make the final minutes of the game a thrilling one.

Coming into the 3rd period, Onalaska trailed 5-1. The only goal for the team came in the first period off a rebound shot by Theresa Knutson that was shot home by Chazlyn Anderson.

The scoring for Onalaska came in a flurry in the final five minutes of the game. Kianna Kalmes hit the net at the 12:18 mark. Just more than a minute later, Jacyn Reeves scored on a power play goal for a 5-3 lead by Green Bay.  Thirty seconds later, again on the power play, Theresa Knutson beat goalie Lindsey Strainis to make it a 5-4 contest.

Green Bay's Kelsey Rafferty made her hat trick when she scored to stretch the lead to 6-4 with 42 seconds remaining.

Not giving up yet, in what only took 21 seconds, Jacyn Reeves had her second goal of the day for a 6-5 Ice Bears lead.

Onalaska had their chance at tying the game in the closing seconds.  Theresa Knutson had a shot that went just wide of the net before one of the Ice Bears poked the puck out of the zone to seal the win and state championship.

The Onalaska Co-op closes their season at 19-8.
