Onalaska Boys fall to Verona 6-1 in state championship

MADISON, Wis. (WXOW) - The Onalaska Boys Hockey team bid to become state champs comes up short after a tough Verona team defense hands the Hilltoppers a 6-1 loss Saturday at the Alliant Energy Center in Madison.

In their third straight appearance at state, the Wildcats, last year's runners-up, came out with a win by outshooting Onalaska by a nearly 4 to 1 margin. Verona scored six times on 34 shots at the goal.  In contrast, the Hilltoppers had only nine shots for the game.

Down 4-0, Onalaska got on the board with a power play goal by Luke Tepp at the 5:18 mark of the 3rd Period, off assists by Bennett Hutson and Bryce Bingham.  It was Tepp's only shot on goal for the game.

Five different players for the Wildcats scored: Brogan Baker, Philippe Fromberger (who scored twice), Charlie Parker, Liam Schmitt, and Grant Smith.

For Verona, it is their first state championship after six appearances.

Onalaska ends their season with a 23-4-1 record.
