Onalaska Boys, Girls Hockey teams bring home the hardware

ONALASKA, Wis. (WXOW) - It was a season of highs and lows for the Onalaska girls and boys hockey teams.

Both left it all on the ice Saturday, but fell just short of the State Championship Title.

The game capped two impressive seasons on the ice, but Sunday was a bittersweet homecoming.

The Onalaska girls hoped their third time at State would be the charm while the Onalaska boys made their first State title appearance after an incredible comeback, but fell short.

Neither team is coming home empty handed. Senior Mariah Nichols said, "We know that many teams didn't make it and that means more to us than getting the gold."

Senior Bryce Bingham said, "Everyone thought we were flying under the radar and we proved them wrong. It's a huge accomplishment."

The boys finish the season with their first State runner-up trophy.

Junior Bennett Hutson said, "Now this is that standard that we have to live up to in the future."

Bennett scored the winning goal in the semi-final game, and now he has the puck to prove it.

The girls took home the 2nd place trophy for the third year in a row, though they didn't go down without a fight.

The boys ended their season with 23 wins, 4 losses and one tie.

The girls had 19 wins and 8 losses.
