Northside elementary construction on schedule

LA CROSSE, Wisconsin (WXOW) - The ice and cold weather this winter hasn't slowed down the construction of the new northside elementary school.

Superintendent Randy Nelson said he's taken two tours of the building in the last two weeks, and he's impressed with the progress.

Construction crews have actually altered their work schedule with the weather.

When it's cold or snowing, crews work inside laying bricks. When outside is nicer, they work on the exterior, Nelson said.

"What they've really been able to do is play the weather really well and say, 'OK it's gonna be an indoor work day.' Like when we have really cold days and we have recess at our elementary schools, you know if it's a certain temperature we say, 'We're going to be inside today.' That's basically what they're doing as well," Nelson said.

The new northside school expected to be open by the beginning of this coming school year.
