Pirates ready to set sail for State

FOUNTAIN CITY, Wisconsin (WXOW)  The WIAA State Boys Basketball Tournament will celebrate it's 99th year this week.

So it's not often we see a school that makes it for the first time.

But Cochrane-Fountain City is doing just that.

The Pirates earned their way to state with a Sectional championship win over Barneveld Saturday.

But it wasn't easy.

Of their five playoff wins one came by 4 points, another by 2 points and a third on a last second shot in overtime.

Certainly there was plenty to celebrate Saturday.

"It was a hard journey. But in the end we won games when it mattered. We re-clutched up in the game against Gilmanton, the #1 seed. We hit a game-winner. That happened throughout the playoffs," said senior guard Garrett Marklowitz.

"We had three close games. We found a way to win those games and move on. I feel like this team can go farther. We don't want to stop now. We want to keep going," said senior guard Cale Lisowski.

"These kids have an incredible attitude. The fed off last year's team and it just builds and builds. We had a couple of bad games but what team doesn't it," said head coach Craig Baker.

The Pirates will play Thorp in the Division 5 semifinals at the Kohl Center Thursday.

Tip-off set for about 3:15pm.

You can watch the game live on WXOW 19 and on www.wxow.com
