Planning Your "Do It Yourself" Project

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WXOW)  If you're planning a home improvement project this year, you're not alone.

According to Angie's List, the remodeling industry has shown solid growth for the past two years and there's no sign it's letting up.  Experts say about 43 million homeowners a year attempt a do-it-yourself project.  An estimated one in five suffers an injury.

Angie Hicks of Angie's List says "all of us will attempt DIY projects at some point but, you need to know whether you are getting yourself in over your head."

If you're thinking of starting a do-it-yourself project, Angie's List suggests consulting a professional before you begin.  When it comes to DIY repairs, don't settle for a temporary fix.  According to Angie's List, skipping steps or forcing things together may provide temporary solutions to short term problems, but they often don't last.
