LA CROSSE, Wis. (WXOW) - After 20 years as the part-time Commissioner of the Mississippi Valley Conference, Terry Erickson has announced his retirement. His official retirement date is June 30, 2014.
The Mississippi Valley Conference has become one of the most successful Conferences in the state under his leadership. He credits that to the dedicated Administrators, Coaches and Student- Athletes at the seven respective schools.
Erickson said, "It is a very intense and involved part-time position that requires a full time commitment. I will be 65 years old this summer and it is time for me to re-examine my priorities and cut back on some of my responsibilities. We have a large family with eleven grandchildren and they need more of my time."
"Terry has done a very good job promoting the Mississippi Valley Conference," said Joe Beran, Lacrosse Central Activities Director, of Terry's years of service for the Conference.
Erickson plans to continue teaching part-time and officiating various sports in the area. "But all of that will be on a restricted schedule", added Erickson.
In addition, Erickson has recently been offered and accepted the Coordinator of Officials position for the Northern Elite Football Conference. The La Crosse Rough Riders are part of the Conference. "That part-time position requires that I am responsible for only one sport rather than the 19 sports in the Mississippi Valley Conference. That will allow me to devote more time to my family and to other interests," said Erickson.
"I will deeply miss my involvement with the student-athletes and Coaches in the Mississippi Valley Conference", concluded Erickson
The Conference will be making plans to have a new Commissioner in place by July 1, 2014.
