MADISON (WKOW) -- A bomb blast in Afghanistan paralyzed Tomah native Dan Rose from the chest down in 2011.

Since then he’s skied down mountains on specially adapted skis, completed his first marathon in a wheelchair and clung to a long board while surfing in the ocean.

Now he’s ready to stand up and walk with the help of a cutting edge $100,000 “bionic
suit” that was delivered to his Madison home last week.

In early April, several friends will be trained to help him to safely practice maneuvering the computer-controlled machine. Until then, Rose said, the manufacturer is withholding crucial start-up codes.

"They kind of know what kind of person I am,” Rose said. “I am kind of adventurous.”

You can catch Rose's full story in this Sunday's edition of the Wisconsin State Journal.
