Badgers earn No. 2 seed, draw American in NCAA tournament

Posted:

MADISON, Wis. -- The Wisconsin men's basketball team (26-7) received a No. 2 seed in the West Region and will face 15th-seeded American (20-12) in the second round of the 2014 NCAA Tournament on Thursday at the BMO Harris Bradley Center in Milwaukee, Wis.

Wisconsin is making its 16th-consecutive trip to the Big Dance.

This is the second time Wisconsin has drawn a 2-seed in the NCAA tournament, equaling the highest seeding in school history.

Tip time for the first-ever meeting between the Badgers and Eagles will be announced later Sunday.

Wisconsin owns a 25-18 record all-time in the NCAA tournament, including a 16-12 mark under head coach Bo Ryan, who has led the Badgers to NCAA bids in each of his 13 seasons in Madison.

The winner of the second-round matchup will face the winner of a game between No. 7 seed Oregon and No. 10 BYU.

The Badgers are a No. 2 seed after earning a No. 5 seed last season and earning a No. 4 seed in each of the preceding three seasons -- which included a pair of runs to the Sweet 16 in 2011 and 2012. UW has earned a top-six seed in 11 of its 13 NCAA tournament appearances under Ryan.

This is the eighth time the Badgers have earned a top-five seed under Ryan, going 6-1 in the first round when seeded fifth or higher.

American earned an automatic bid to the tournament with a 55-36 win over Boston University in the Patriot League championship game on March 12.
