MILWAUKEE (AP) - Marquette's eight-year run to the NCAA tournament is over, and the Golden Eagles got shut out of the NIT, too.
After getting snubbed from the top two postseason tourneys Sunday, an athletic department official announced on Twitter that the team would not participate in any other events.
Coach Buzz Williams said in a statement that he was "obviously disappointed." He had said after losing in the Big East tournament last week that he would welcome an NIT bid.
Williams said Sunday he would have been excited by the opportunity to continue to compete and improve, and that it was "extremely difficult to know" that Marquette's seniors had played their final games.
Marquette advanced to the regional semifinals last season but finished 17-15 this year and ended on a four-game slide.
