LA CROSSE, Wis. (WXOW) - Friday is World Down Syndrome Day.
A local celebration was hosted by Chuck E. Cheese of La Crosse.
Event Coordinator Kim Grosskopf put together the local party to help bring people together to celebrate people with Down Syndrome. This event was created to focus on the possibilities and not the disabilities. 15% of money made by Chuck E. Cheese during the event goes to support the Down Syndrome Association of Wisconsin.
"These people are just like us and they can do just as much as we can. In fact the have an out look on life that is wonderful. So it is all about getting the word out and letting people know that we are here.", said Grosskopf.
Down Syndrome is caused by having three copies of the 21st chromosome instead of 2. This is why it is celebrated on March 21st. For more information you can visit dsaw.org.
