La Crosse Central State run fueled by twin sisters

Posted:
Green Bay, WI - LA CROSSE, Wis. (WXOW) - Twin sisters Brooke and Brittany Baldwin, two of the top seniors on the La Crosse Central girls basketball team, are practically opposites on the floor.

Brittany is the focal point of the Red Raiders offense, while Brooke is the team's key defender. According to the Baldwin family, their relationship off the court is somewhat different, and when it comes to cheering on Central High School, two is not always better than one for parents Todd and Lois Baldwin.

"It may be twice as good, but it's twice as hard on us," Lois Baldwin joked. Both Brittany and Brooke helped lead the Red Raiders to their first state tournament appearance since 1995, and their parents said they don't have a favorite player on the team. "We're just so happy for them and the team, because this team has worked hard and its good they get the recognition," Lois Baldwin said.

According to Todd and Lois, Brittany and Brooke have a traditional sibling rivalry, which may come from their mother. "They probably get their athleticism from me a little bit," Lois said.

The Baldwin twins have played basketball since 3rd grade, and playing at the state tournament has always been on their wish list. "They've always dreamed of it, it's just different now that they made it this far," Todd Baldwin said.

Brittany has been on the varsity since her freshman year, and Brooke has been on varsity since her sophomore season. According to their older sisters Emily and Jessica, being separated on the floor for one season drew them closer together. "They each had to establish kind of their own identities on their teams and I think it did push Brooke to work a little harder so she could play up there with Brittany again," Jessica Baldwin said.

Emily added that as tough as her young twin sisters can be on one another, it'll never change the fact that they're connected by a strong bond. "They're close, they're best friends and they probably won't admit it," Emily Baldwin said.

Todd and Lois Baldwin say Brooke and Brittany will attend the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse in the fall. La Crosse Central lost a nail-biter to the DeForest Norskies in the state semifinals on Friday afternoon. The Red Raiders finished 21-6 this season, their best finish since 2005.
