Marie Leon LaCroix being presented flowers for her birthday.
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WXOW) - A nationally known singer-songwriter teaches and performs Saturday at Viterbo University.
Larry Long presented "Elder's Wisdom, Children's Song," in the University' Reinhart Center.
There was also a workshop that focused on creating a song from start to finish. The group of students involved split up into groups and each created a verse based off of the life of Marie Leon LaCroix.
Marie is a long time friend of Larry Long. She is also the founder of the Viterbo's Theatre Department. The song was created to honor Marie and was dedicated to her as well to celebrate her 96th birthday.
Larry Long is a Smithsonian Folkways recording artist and has been around the world performing at many festivals including the Awesome Africa Festival, the Winnipeg Folk Festival, and at Madison Square Garden.
The event today was part of the annual Paula Ripple Comin Endowed Lecture Series.
