Monroe County Sheriff retiring

SPARTA, Wis. (WXOW) - Monroe County Sheriff Pete Quirin is not running for re-election.

He said he feels it's time for "a younger guy to sit in and keep things going".

Quirin was appointed Sheriff in 2004 by former Governor Jim Doyle.  He lost the Sheriff's election in 2006 but ran again in 2010 and was re-elected.

Quirin's last day will be Jan. 5, 2015.
