Plans for new Monroe County Jail, Courthouse hit small snag

SPARTA, Wisconsin (WXOW) -It's a project about 20 years in the making and it's hit a small snag.

Monroe County is building a new jail to meet an overflowing population, but the bidding process is delayed a few weeks because of issues with plumbing specifications.

Despite the small delay, groundbreaking should be in May.

The new facility will be located across the street from the current jail and courthouse.

It will house twice as many inmates as the current jail and boost security.

Judge David Rice says "The current facility is a design built in the 1930's, made for John Dillinger, to make sure he doesn't escape."

It will take about two years for the new jail and courthouse to be complete.
