Bethany Lutheran breaks ground on new senior living community

La Crosse, WI (WXOW) - LA CROSSE, Wis. (WXOW) - Another option is in the works for senior living in La Crosse.

Bethany Lutheran Homes, an affiliate of Gundersen Health System, broke ground Monday on construction for the "Eagle Crest South" project.

Eagle Crest South is a new senior community living home which Bethany Lutheran C-E-O Todd Wilson called a nursing home alternative offering 144 private apartments and homes for seniors and "bring the town to their front door."

The south branch will have a town center, which will include underground parking, a movie theatre, and a beauty salon among many other features.

Wilson said since Bethany Lutheran opened an Eagle Crest branch in Onalaska, there has been a "strong desire" by the La Crosse community for a southern branch. "Anytime you can bring this quality living environment to the people and seniors in the community, you're doing a special thing. And you know, it's time that this special type of living arrangement has become available," Wilson said.

Eagle Crest South will stand at 622 Bennora Lee Court behind Gundersen Health System.

Wilson said Eagle Crest will be able to house up to 200 residents and bring 60 jobs to the community. Construction is scheduled to be completed by late May, 2015.
