Labor union endorses candidates

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WXOW) - A local labor union gives its endorsement to candidates in three of next week's spring races.

Bill Brockmiller, President of the Western Wisconsin AFL-CIO released a statement supporting those running for the La Crosse and Monroe county boards and the Sparta City Council.

The AFL-CIO represents more than 5,000 union members and 42 affiliated unions in the area.

In the statement, Brockmiller said, “After carefully reviewing the candidates’ records and statements, the Western Wisconsin AFL-CIO believes these candidates are the best choice for working families in the Coulee Region.”

“It is because of these candidates’ commitment to the issues and concerns of working people that we endorse them. The Council is proud to extend these endorsements and to offer our support and assistance to these family-friendly candidates.”

These candidates received the union's endorsement:

La Crosse County Board

  • 11th District-Patrick Scheller
  • 13th District-Donald Meyer
  • 18th District-Sam Scinta
  • 19th District-Thomas Downer
  • 20th District-Steve Doyle
  • 22nd District-Patrick Barlow

Monroe County Board

  • 6th District-Paul Marten
  • 16th District-Lori Welcher
  • 17th District-Mary Von Ruden
  • 22nd District-Richard Yarrington

Sparta City Council

  • 3rd District-Mary Von Ruden

Election day is April 1.
