Bear cubs calling West Bend their Home

WEST BEND, Wis. (WXOW) - Two bear cubs have a new home in West Bend after their mother abandoned them at a Chicago zoo. David and Lana Fechter just adopted twins.

The Fetcher's have two grown children, but raising Lewis and Clark is proving to be a challenge at times.

"They require a lot of attention," said David Fechter.  "They're like a 2-year-old where they get into everything."

The cubs were named after explorers Lewis and Clark because the Fechter's say the cubs love to explore.

The Fetcher's bought their property to preserve the land.  Now, educating people about their wildlife is their full-time job.

When the twins are big and old enough, their home will be in the great outdoors.

The Shalom Wildlife Sanctuary is one hour north of Milwaukee.

If anyone wants to visit the twins, the refuge will open May 1. However it's recommended you check them out during the week when it's less crowded.
