A safe community focus of neighborhood conference

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WXOW) - Creating a safe place to live and work is the theme of the first annual Mayor's Neighborhood Conference Saturday.

Among the presentations is the keynote address from Rick Kyte, Director of the D.B. Reinhart Institute for Ethics in Leadership at Viterbo University. Kyte plans to talk about the flourishing community.

Other presentations include neighborhood watch programs and safety in the home.

Mayor Tim Kabat also wants the conference to impact grass roots neighborhood organizations.  "I want to be able to help them get stronger and more effective so that they can have direct input into things like the capital budget and how do we provide those services at the neighborhood level", Kabat said. "Those folks who live in the neighborhood should have a big say in that."

The conference takes place March 29 at the Black River Beach Neighborhood Center at 1433 Rose Street from 8:30 a.m.
