Vote coming Tuesday on Holmen area community center proposal

Posted:
HOLMEN, Wis. (WXOW) - Voters from the Town of Onalaska and the Town of Holland will decide Tuesday if they want to support a new community center.

The plan calls for attaching the community center to Holmen High School.  Plans for the center are still in the early stages but the first step is financing.

The question before voters reads,"Shall the Town Board of the Town of Holland be authorized to pledge and expend a sum not to exceed $70.00 per household per year for 3 years for the construction of a multi-use community center with the Town of Onalaska, Village of Holmen and the Holmen School District?"  Voters in the Town of Onalaska will see their municipality in the first part of the question.

The use for the community center is still to be determined but the hope is that it will serve the youth.

"It's predominately for the youth but there's also been a number of discussions that focused on support for seniors as well as anyone.   They're proposing for example a track within the gymnasium that anyone can come and walk", says Scott Heinig, Village Administrator for Holmen.

The center would be used by surrounding communities as well as Holmen so the question about whether to support the community center will appear on the Town of Onalaska and the Town of Holland ballots.
