Three Riverfront participants move into their new home

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WXOW) - In early March, Riverfront announced plans to better serve the needs of adults with disabilities in our community.

The idea is to give adults with disabilities the opportunity to live independently in a new family home.

On Monday, three Riverfront participants got to see their new home for the first time.

The remodeled, three-bedroom home is part of the Sixteen Pines neighborhood located on Highway 16 in La Crosse. The home includes a roll-in shower and three ramped exits with open space and access to outdoors and nearby community activities.

Riverfront staff will be on-site 24/7 providing training and support to residents.  Residential Service Leader, Ann Rendler, says the participants are very excited that move in day has finally arrived. "It made me tear up a little bit and my heart got fluttery. They were just very excited to be here and happy. They've been talking about this move for several weeks and now today it finally came to be," said Rendler.

A fourth participant will be moving in in April into the second floor of the home and will learn independent living skills as they prepare to move into their own home.

Phase 2 of the project includes cabins which will be placed on the grounds over the summer.

Riverfront says if you or someone you know is looking for placement, there is still room available.  Just give them a call at 608-784-9450.
