LA CROSSE, Wis. (WXOW) - Voters are going to the polls to vote for their candidates and referendums around the area.

For residents of La Crosse County, new machines await voters. It means the ballots will look a little different according to La Crosse County Clerk Ginny Dankmeyer. "The big thing is that the ballot is ovals now instead of the arrows.  So it's just something they'll need to know. Most of them will just go with that.  Most won't even notice the difference."

On the ballot for voters are a number of referendums for school districts.  La Crosse is asking voters to approve a $4.1 million referendum for technology and security improvements.  West Salem wants those in their district to OK spending $32 million fo ra new middle school.

There are also several contested county board races in La Crosse, Monroe, and Vernon counties.

On the municipal level, a new mayor for the City of Tomah is on the ballot Tuesday, but not without controversy.  Le Roy Kelsey is on the ballot, but cannot actually win the race due to charges of falsifying statements made when he filled out papers for his candidacy. Although he is officially out of the race, it was too late to change the ballots to remove his name.  Shannon Hough is the other candidate running for Tomah mayor.

WXOW.com will have the latest election results as soon as possible after the polls close at 8:00 p.m.  We will have reaction to the votes also on our 10pm Report.
