Green Island Ice Arena open year round

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WXOW)- A mutual, one year, agreement between the La Crosse Hockey management and the City has been made to operate the Green Island Ice Arena year round.

This will allow users to have more availability, expand the ice season and alleviate expenses on city budget.  It will not cost the city anything as the La Crosse Hockey management agreed to cover all of the expenses from utilities to staff.

Jay Odegaard, Parks, Recreation and Forestry Supervisor, stated "You know it will be very beneficial to have year round ice and with a lot of the programs that they run it is very beneficial for them to have adequate ice time that they can reserve with a high priority."

The city and high school programs will not be affected by this agreement and will continue to have the same ice schedule.  "The city saw it as an opportunity to expand the ice season here and give the user groups a lot more availability.  The city also has in the agreement that all of the city programs will be in here free of charge," stated Jay Odegaard.

The agreement will be in place until March 31st of next year and are currently working on a 20 year contract.
